Financial Planning for Families

Young families face a growing number of financial decisions. We help bring structure, clarity, and accountability to your plan, allowing you to focus on what matters most.

Common questions we address:

  1. We are about to have a child – should an Education Savings Plan take priority over our retirement accounts? How do we juggle all of the necessary expenses?
  2. We are earning good money but feel like we are not getting ahead – how much should we be saving? Is it too early to start planning for retirement?
  3. If one of us cannot work due to injury or illness, what would happen financially?
  4. We are unsure whether to keep renting or to buy a home – will one route put us ahead financially?
  5. I am leaving my job to start a new business – how should I manage personal finances with my new company obligations?
  6. I will be switching employers – what should I do about my pension and benefit plan?
  7. I will be receiving an inheritance – how should this money be invested/spent?

How we help young families:

  1. Creating a clear, personalized plan that addresses your goals and the areas causing stress or uncertainty.
  2. Implementing safeguards so your finances stay on track if something unexpected happens.
  3. Developing a tax-efficient savings and investing strategy.
  4. Providing ongoing guidance and support as your situation evolves.

Our Compensation

Fee-For-Service Planning

Our fee for general financial planning starts at $1,125 and will ultimately be based on the complexity of the client’s situation and what they want addressed in the financial plan. We provide a fully transparent quote prior to commencing any billable work. Under unique circumstances, we may accommodate consultations at a one-hour minimum.

Investments

For clients who want investing help, we offer two options:

  1. A one-time plan, most popular with D.I.Y. investors who want to ensure their strategy is appropriate. This starts at $1,125.
  2. Holistic investment management, including setup, administration, ongoing review and servicing. Fees for this option can be found HERE.

Life & Health Insurance

For clients who require insurance and want us to facilitate it, we are compensated in the form of a sales commission directly from the insurance company for which we place our client’s business with.  There is no exchange of funds between the client and First Oak Financial as it pertains to the sale of a life or health insurance policy. The commission we receive does not impact our insurance recommendations whatsoever – we have a fiduciary duty to act in the client’s best interest and we strictly adhere to that.
